New Airsoft field and shop...
Hello everyone, My dad owns some un-used land, and I was talking to him about turning it into a public field and shop for ya'll to use. Its in an area of 1.5 - 2.0 acres of land, kinda small yes, but its still big enough. Its in Austin...where I live, and its in a wooded area in surrounded by fences and wharehouses, so no stray BB is going to make it far. Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone would go to it often, cause it in Austin, and its an Airsoft field...not a paintball field. Could I get ya'lls input?

Can never have too many fields! What part of Austin? The crew I work with (including myself) all work some very oddball hours so our games are usually in the middle of the week or earlier. Weekends off for us are a thing of the past.

If you could be a little more specific that would be great. Maybe include an address of one of the locations you just mentioned, or like Wolv brought up, I think that you tried to post a link to google maps for the location and may have made a mistake.

Many people can't visualize an acre.
An acre is a box 208' x 208'.
208' is two thirds of a football field.
Your average Super Walmart is 4.5 acres.

Yeah not to be negative but judging from the satellite images Its way to close to the general population. Its near 1st and Slaughter which is a busy area. All it takes is one person from lets say oh I don't know...The community church, a passing car, or the neighborhood across the street to call in saying a bunch of dudes with machine guns are running around the woods. Then we all get to meet the SWAT team that's stationed off of 8th.
This all goes without saying that the area is about the size of our Normandy and trenches fields at TXPB. Nice offer and Its good to see people willing to help the hobby out but this could do more harm than good.

No. There is a street that's by it yes. But it's not busy. And every where around it is only abandoned wharehouses and a uninhabited house.

Other than the issues Grimmace mentioned, Here's what else is stopping you:
Austin City Ordinance CHAPTER 9-6. RESTRICTIONS ON FIREARMS
Section 9-6-1 Subsection 6(b) where an airgun is defined as a firearm.
Section 9-6-7, take note of Subsection (B) 3.
I interpret this as you can not fire an air gun within city limits unless it is indoors or outdoors with sufficient safeguards to prevent a projectile from leaving the property. I also interpret that the facility needs to be purposed as a shooting facility for air guns. Hence you may need to meet zoning and permit ordinances.
Just because you own the land doesn't mean you can do what ever you please on it or with it. You still need to abide by city/county ordinances as well as state/federal laws.
