Deadfest 3 - I had a GREAT time!!
Just got back from Deadfest 3. Trenchraider and I made the 3 hour trek up to Red Oak and we are very glad we did. We were really worried about whether the event would make because it was raining in Austin this morning and we were driving in rain until we got past Hillsboro.
The field was pretty muddy when we got there but it was a great place to play with three buildings to fight in and lots of interesting and varied terrain. I got into some great firefights and of course, I won some and I lost some. In the end the survivors came up with a great battleplan and executed it flawlessly giving them a clear win for the day but we gave them a really good fight and held the majority of the spawn points most of the day. Congratulations to all the survivor players on a well fought game.
Both Trenchraider and I were exhausted and had empty batteries and empty magazines at the end of the day. We both agreed that we were very glad we had gone to the event then I got some icing on the cake of my day when I won the costume contest and was awarded a very nice airsoft rifle. There was a veritable ton of swag given away at the end of the event (4-5 AEG including a classic army), a tornado, a pistol, a nice carrying case, a coupon for a free upgrade from one of the sponsors as well as a bunch of lesser swag like lanyards, gun cases, T-shirts, and patches. Hats off to the all the great and generous sponsors of the event and a very special thanks to Bluegin and his crew for riding herd over such a fun day.
The only dark cloud I remember was actually just before the game started when Merchant fell down and got hurt. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery Merchie!!
I am really looking forward to seeing the pictures and videos from this event. By the by, if you see images of this silly old fellow running around with a spikey black helmet, sword, and battleaxe, that was my evil twin and not me. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

:eek::
Fell down? I nearly killed myself. Only the nylon thick padding and webbing of my camelbak and a bit of luck kept the metal shaft/support on the ground from impaling me. for those of you that didn’t know or were there but heard rumors. This is what happened.
we were setting up for the first morning game someone told me we need a body to go up the tower / gallows because it had a great view of a number of approaches. so I volunteered. It wasn't marked off as one of the danger areas and seemed pretty well built. (Rot not taken into account.) as it was a gallows I decided to avoid the trap door areas just in case. Sadly as I was walking the parameter of the platform checking lines of fire while waiting for the game to start, in less time than a 2 second count. there was a load crack the decking next to the rap door broke throwing me sideways through the now broken open trapdoor. Bits of metal bars and support bars broke off and dropped with me. On my way down the right side of my chest hit the lip of the trap door opening bruising my ribs and knocking the wind out of me so I could not breathe. Either the trap door itself swung back and slammed into my back or more than likely the metal bar brace that was sticking out of the ground behind me tried to go thru my back and gouged out or scraped two gashes about 6 inches long and thru two layers of my skin about 2 inches to the right of my spine. Thankfully it was stopped by my insulated camelback that is now shredded. Oh well live and learn I don’t think I will be going up questionable structures anymore and would advise against anyone else from doing so.
On a side note
I would have given you a run for that aeg in the contest if I hadn’t been knocked out of the game. But I didn’t need a another riffle and I did need the 2nd prize gas pistol the guy with the wings gave me for best injury…. Oh I’m writing this now while in extreme pain as the drop was just over 8 my legs shoulders and arms that were not injured in the fall now hurt like hell. Every time I hiccup or chough it feels like I am being stabbed in the side and yes I have been stabbed so I know what that feels like.
Right now I can’t get back to sleep till the Vicodin I just took kicks back in
I can hardly move if I twist the wrong way I can’t breathe lifting my legs or arms or anything produces enough pain in my chest area that I can’t do any of those activities for very long or any activity. Looking back I wish It had not happened I really wanted to play on that field. Instead I got a 5 hour trip to the ER 100.00 co pay and follow up visits with my doctor
Can’t wait for next year hopefully a game will run here again and I will get to play it finally. I’m just hoping my chest will heal up in time so I can do reindeer games

First off, it was good to see you back an in decent repair Merchant. I didn't see the accident, but was around the corner from were it occured and heard the loud "crack" as the trapdoor broke. As you said, it could have been alot worse and I think I speak for everyone is saying that we are relieved you are ok.
But as I said at the time, I suppose you are lucky you were not wearing one of the nooses when the trap door broke. That's how it's supposed to work, right?
Anyway, I really can't add much to what Dave said about "Mudfest"...err.."Deadfest". But it was a blast and those of you who didn't make it, missed out on a good time. Dave and I estimated that we shot about 6,000 rounds between us and indeed at the end of the day my G3 had a dead battery and we were down to pistols. (incidently, I did manage to score about 6 pistols kills during the day, so that was not entirely a bad thing)
Kudos to Bluegin and the North texas guys for staging the event. I hope that the owners of the place allow the venue to be used again the in the future for airsoft as it made for a very enjoyable experience.
Well, I just popped a handul of Alive to ease my sore muscles and the wife and I are about to go to breakfast so I'll have to close now. I have a few amusing war stories to relate, but they will have to wait. Ask Dave about something involving me, a Glock AEP , a MOSCART, a room full of baddies, and a plastic skeleton!
TR
oh yes, and Mrs. Trench Raider is still scolding me for coming home with mud caked boots and uniform...ah well!

Well fortified with pain killers i was able to unload my car and discovered my aug is now dead. It will fire but the body is cracked around the ejection ports and is separating badly. Anyone know if the body’s from the ca guns will take all the internals from TM aug? Barrel or who makes that aug I saw at the game with the really heavy duty stock?

Well, I didn't feel it was my place to go into the details so I left it up to you to decide whether or not to provide them. Next year, we teach those pesky survivors a lessen eh?

Reindeer Manor is a great venue and I hope we get to use it again. I'm trying to think of all the weird and interesting things that happened (at least to me and Trenchraider)
1) having two grenades thown at me in and around the library and both of them duds *whew*
2) getting an axe kill
3) some idiot (who bore an uncanny resemblance to me) drawing a battleaxe and pistol and charging an enemy strongpoint across a clearing
4) spooked cattle running across one of the fields where folks were fighting
5) drawing down on someone in a building and demanding surrender and then discovering its a plastic Santa Claus
6) Trenchraider shooting someone in a building and getting annoyed the target was hit-shrugging, then figuring out it was a plastic skeleton in a chair
7) Me and a survivor standing on a road behind the theatre at extreme range and slowly advancing towards each other firing away. I don't know about him but the theme to The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly was playing in my head the whole time. Happily my gun had a little better range than his
8) Trenchraider catching a group of survivors in a darkened room and blasting them with a Moscart. After he set it off Trenchie heard them say, "what was THAT ?!?? I guess I'm dead" , "...me too"
9) Grudgingly handing over my tornado airsoft grenade to Trenchraider who was fighting some survivors across a wooden fence. He pulled the pin and the grenade went off as he was throwing it killing him and leaving me rolling on the ground laughing and suddenly grateful I had loaned Trenchie the grenade.

Haha, i just started uncontrollably laughing whilst reading numbers five through eight. Picturing the two of you unloading on inanimate objects, and you singing The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly while shooting at someone is just to funny.

DeadFest 3 Official AAR
Thanks to everyone who braved the weather and made it out! We really appreciate every person that came and we were grateful for the fantastic level of sportsmanship and attitude that we had. We had a rough start but I think overall the game went well!
The survivors were HEAVILY outnumbered by the defending Warlords so they had a rough time the whole day! To add to that, they had no actual team leader!
The Score
1st scenario
Survivors
2 jerry cans - 50
2 flags - 100
150
Warlords
1 treasure box - 25
3 flags - 150
175
2nd scenario
Survivors
2 treasure boxes - 50
all flags - 250
300
Warlords
0 flags - 0
0 Jerry cans - 0
0
Total
Survivors: 475
Warlords: 175
So the survivors were able to push the Warlords all the way back into their house and hold all flags at the last scenario! Good job everybody! There were valiant maneuvers by many players that I witnessed.
Big thanks to all our sponsors for providing all the great raffle items!

Special thanks to Reindeer Manor for so graciously hosting us, big thanks to Texas Smokehouse for providing the fantastic lunch and thanks to Ryan Li for doing the professional photo and video work!
Thanks to Diesel for taking care of the waivers- SUPER SPECIAL THANKS to Ghostdancer for MAKING THE FLAGS and creating the custom pyro detonators and HUGE MEGA SPECIAL THANKS to Cranky Smurf for all the work he put into this for reasons I'll never know! Awesome staff you guys!!! Everybody put in a tremendous effort behind the scenes and on the field and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone but thanks to everyone.
Thanks again everybody!
(Merchant- we wish you a speedy recovery!!!)
Here is a preview from the photographer we hired to shoot out there. He did video and photos. The photos should all be processed this week and the video in the next 2 weeks. He just wanted to give a quick taste of what's coming. He shot about 150 photos.

I rather like the pic of the guy shooting his M4 with one hand and talking on his cell phone with the other. Looks like it was a fun event. Merchant, sorry to hear you got injured. Ditto to a speedy recovery.
