Default AEG recoil

Simulated recoil, either by GBB rifles or by AEGs like the TM SOPMOD and new-generation AK series, has become a more common feature.

Modify appears to be offering an aftermarket upgrade that you can install yourself. Here is their second video.

I saw a blurb about this product a few weeks back. I'm surprised that it might be hitting the market soon.

While the Marui systems are a more reliable recoil system, they dont offer very much power. Even the new G36 that was released has a lack of punch. I'm not familiar with how the new gearboxes are different from their previous designs, but Wolv - is it possible to install an M110 or M120 Spring and maintain safe operation? By safe I mean prolonged use without damaging internal components beyond the usual wear and tear.

The modify system provides an alternative to recoil simulation for an electric gun. I think that having a much more consistent gun is practical as far as skirmishing goes. Gas blow back replicas offer a little more realism than electric guns can. What both the Marui and Modify system lack is the sound, functioning charging handle and hammer/ trigger group feel.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the SOPMOD only have a functioning bolt catch, and not charging handle?

Another point to consider is that the 'recoil sensation' may differ from system to system. With the Marui system is seems there is a weight that cycles back with the piston. With a GBB an actual bolt cycles back into an aluminum buffer tube. Would that make a difference?

I'm rather dissapointed with the "recoil feelings" of the the Guarder T-86. Its a split gearbox design and has a buffer tube with a similar setup to a real one. The spring in there is actuated with an extension off of the piston. In other words the buffer tube spring is the gearbox spring. The rifle breaks down just like a real AR and its definately unique being patterned after the Taiwanese gas piston AR service rifles. The recoil they liked to market was lack luster though, just a bit more vibration than any normal AEG.

Still though, its a unique AEG and very uncommon here in the states.

Yeah Jeremy, that's kind of what I was thinking. Though I've never actually shot an electric "shock and recoil" system, from what I've seen it seems like the replicas just vibrate more. On the other hand GBB replicas actually have a snappy kick to each shot, which causes the barrel rise.

I'll have to try out the electric recoil some time to see how they differ. In the mean time, I'll just keep playing with my lovely GBBR. =)

Well, speaking from the standpoint of having shot and owned the hardest-kicking airsoft replicas out there, of course an AEG doesn't have the recoil of a good GBB rifle. It isn't close between a GBB rifle and AEG, but the TM SOPMOD for example is still a nice step up from a regular AEG.

Yes.
M120 is possible but not recommended due to overall lack of aftermarket parts and concern about the buffer tube threads letting go.
The weight is in the buffer tube, not the piston.

Correct, bolt catch only.

AW, one of these days I want to check out that SOPMOD. Would be nice to compare it next to the Guarder for comparison.
