Nice weight/feel, comfortable stock pretty, accurate out of the box

Cons:

CREAK, blah this gun does make a lot of noise but that can be fixed

I really like this gun. From how the gun is weighted, to how it looks. I don\'t have much \"know-how\" with AEG\'s but I believe that this is a good choice for someone who wants to lay down some support fire.

CREAKY, borderline too-big

All in all, I really like this AEG. This is my first experience with a real airsoft weapon, and I was not disappointed. However, the first time I pulled it out of the box, I immediately noticed the plastic creaking sound. This did bother me, but I figured it could be taken care of.
I did end up just recently selling this gun mostly because I wanted something a bit smaller and more agile in tight spaces. With the SG1, it takes a REALLY long time to get the weapon to aim-point when coming around a corner.
Overall, a great gun, but be prepared for a LONG rifle.

I have used G3/SG1s for two years, now. While I\'m still impressed with this AEG, overall, there is room for improvement.
I have no complaints about the \"mighty creak\" or \"problematic wobble\" which is so frequently bemoaned of this series. Yes, the gun is \"creaky\", but not so noticeable that it would \"give away your position\" in airsoft. Let\'s face it. If someone\'s close enough to hear the little bit of noise emitted by the foregrip rubbing up against the cocking tube, they\'re already close enough to see you and take a shot at you. This is airsoft, not ninja-school. The same principles can be applied to the complaints of \"barrel wobble\" hindering accuracy. The majority of applications for this AEG will employ energy levels and BB\'s which effectively eliminate most options for \"accuracy\".
As for the size of the AEG, there\'s no getting around the fact that it\'s large. This series has one of the largest footprints on the market. It\'s big and cumbersome. I wouldn\'t recommend this AEG to anyone regularly playing CQB games or in paintball bunkers. It\'s just too big for that. It does, however, excel in open terrain. I\'m frequently able to supress opponents, outside their range, with my upgraded (400FPS) SG1.
There\'s also an advantage in the magazine capacity. With 500 BB high capacity magazines available, one doesn\'t need to carry many for a day of skirmishing. They also tend to feed a large volume of BBs with each \"full wind\". This will allow you to put more fire down range, in between cycles of each magazine.
There are a few things to look out for, after prolonged use:
1. Nearly ever external feature attached with a screw can and will become loose or fall off, altogether. This includes the flashhider, forward outter barrel assembly, upper sling swivel and the lower sling swivel. Plan on buying replacements once or twice during the lifetime of this AEG.
2. The magazine catch and selector switch are painfully dependent on shamefully small screws. They are easy to lose, strip and break. Be careful with them. And plan to replace them once or twice in a lifetime.
3. The plastic receiver\'s magazine well WILL wear out. Both of my SG1 plastic receivers misfeed every other round, right now. This is easily cured by applying a metal body. Of course, there is a tradeoff in weight.
4. The G3 still uses a Version II mechbox, which is prone to cracking, shattering, shearing and other hardships. My primary mechbox lasted two years, before the front 3/4 inch or so was shorn off. I consider that a lengthy lifespan, however, as I\'ve seen several V.II mechboxes crack after less use.
All in all, the SG1 is still a good purchase. However, one must be willing to take good care of it. Though, that applies to all AEGs.

I may have been the one who ended up buying CKy's rifle. I've never looked back after getting this magnificent piece of airsoft. There have been times I tried to buy other guns but the G3sg/1 never failed to impress me. The first time I came across this design was at watching a Hongkong action movie pertaining to the exploits of SDU (special duties unit) which is the SWAT version of their police. Their sniper implements a psg-1 and their spotter uses the G3Sg1. When the spotter got wounded in their first engagement against the bad guys, the sniper uses the G3Sg1 fully in suppressive and sniper role. Movie by the ways is called First Option.
Upgraded, this gun can be a match to any design around. It has excellent range and with its select fire option, you can lay down suppressive fire or tag your target as a designated marksman.
One bad thing though I notice is that the screws loosen up sometimes...especially the one holding the bipod. Make sure to tighten them every engagement just to be sure.
This gun gives me the feeling of being able to just take on the opposition. That is how much regard I have for the G3SG/1.
Note also that the G3 series designation of SG/1. This stands for Schutzen Gewehr or sharpshooter's rifle.
Whats next with my gun? A metal body and metal cocking handle is in the works.
Definitely not your common M16/M4 rifle.
