Pros: Good weight; full stock for large battery; great trades and finish on body; RIS included
Cons: Barrel wobble decreased, but not eliminated; Slightly front heavy

I received my Tokyo Marui SR16 for Christmas of 2003. Needless to say I was impressed with what I got.

Looks and Feel: Having had experience with other Armalite series AEG\'s in the past, I was surprised with the look and feel of this particular replica. Upon opening the box, I found myself staring at a rather sexy looking Armalite. The entire gun has a matte black finish, unlike the M4 and M16 which have a grey finish on their bodies. Upon picking up the SR16, I was immediately impressed by its weight. Though most of the weight is forward of the receiver due to the metal RIS, with a battery installed in the stock they weight is distributed a little more evenly. Shouldering the rifle is rather easy and feels like any other Armalite-type replica. While Marui has improved on the infamous Armalite \"barrel wobble\" problem, it is still evident. However, a teammate (thanks Jason!) eliminated this problem by applying plumbers tape to the threads on which the outer barrel was screwed.

Function: The included vertical grip for the RIS foregrip allows for better control of the rifle, especially in CQB type scenarios. Though the flip-up rear sight that comes with the gun looks rather flimsy, its metal construction makes it quite rigid and practical. Adjustable for wind but not elevation, the rear sight is a nice little addition and a useful backup iron sight. The functional hopup can be accessed by pulling back the charging handle which pops open a small door on the right side of the receiver. Normally this is where spent brass would be ejected from a real steel weapon, but on the Airsoft version this is where you will find the hopup wheel.

Shooting: Performance for the SR16 is the same as with any other stock Marui AEG. Velocity out of the box is between 280 and 300 feet-per-second. With a large battery and the EG1000 motor, this gun is a great base for upgrades. The selctor switch has a crisp, clean action, though this may wear down over time. Most magazines will come out of the magazine well pretty smoothly when the magazine release is engaged. If there is one problem with shooting the SR16 it is this: during firing the wires attached to the motor leads will often vibrate loose. This can be solved by either crimping the wires onto the leads very tightly or soldering the wires directly to the motor leads.

Upgrades & Accessories: As I stated before, this replica is a great base for upgrades and accessories. The RIS and flat top receiver allows for many attachments, including lasers, torches, grenade launchers, scopes, Red Dot sights, and many other items. The EG1000 motor and version 2 gearbox are great for many types of upgrades.

Overall: In conclusion, the SR16 is a great replica in either stock or upgraded form. It is definitely a platform for any projects you could think of, from a CQB weapon to a sniper rifle. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a good Armalite replica.

Pros: Great project weapon, thousands of upgrade options
Cons: Barrel wobble inproved, but not eliminated

Probably the most versitile AEG on the market. As bear simply stated, it can be the base for just about any project you can think of, from a sniper rifle to a CQB weapon. The matte black finish makes this a very sleek looking weapon, and the rail on top as well as the RIS on the foregrip make it a platform for just about any accessory out there.

I would suggest immediately putting locktight on the 3 screws securing the outer barrel under the RIS on this gun. Also be careful not to overtighten the 3 screws, as you might strip them like i did, and fight a futile battle of keeping the barrel from wobbling. But this being an armalite varient, you have access to thousands of replacement parts (as well as accessories) to keep your SR16 running smoothly and efficiently.
