With just having sold my old Tokyo Marui M4, I was in the market for something new and different. My search parameters consisted of the following: a large battery capacity, decent magazine capable of holding a good number of rounds, and lots o metal. Lo-and-behold, I got my wish with the Tokyo Marui M1A1 Thompson Submachine Gun. I ordered my Thompson from www.as4l.com. As usual I went cheap on the shipping so I sat on my laurels waiting for the package to arrive. When it did, I ceremoniously opened the package and was greeted by a great looking replica.
Looks: The Marui Thompson is an extremely accurate replica of the real-steel M1A1. The simulated wood on Marui\'s version may be fake, but in their case it\'s hard to tell until you actually handle the gun and feel the stock and foregrip. The outer barrel, trigger, selector switches, magazine release, buttplate, sling swivels, and the entire upper receiver are made from metal and have a slightly blued finish to them.
Feel: At 3400g the Thompson is pretty hefty. When shouldered, the M1A1 is very comfortable. The sight picture is very good and you get the feel that you\'re really \"putting it out there\" in regards to the gun.
Function: The Thompson has a few operational quirks that take a little getting used to, but by no means detract from the allure of this replica. There are two selector switches on the lower receiver: one for safe/unsafe, and one for semiautomatic/fully-automatic fire. The magazine release also takes a bit of getting used to. Mags do not drop freely when the mag release is pushed upward; the mags must be pulled out while the mag release is engaged. I have gotten used to pushing the mag release with my left thumb while gripping and pulling the mag out with the rest of my hand. A little practice and mag changes become very easy.
Shooting: It is simply a joy to fire the Thompson. The sights, while they are very simple notch/ring and post sights, are very effective and quite accurate. The rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation by simply sliding the sight left/right or up/down. The Hop-Up mechanism is a Marui drum type and is located where the shells would normally be expelled from a real-steel Thompson. At first I was worried about dirt and debris getting into the mechanism since it has no cover, but after playing with the M1A1 for a while it has become apparent that my worries were baseless: the Hop-Up is very solid and has never moved during gameplay.
Upgrades and Accessories: Upgrades for the Thompson are slightly more limited than other AEG\'s. Internally, the EG700 motor and Version 6 gearbox can take many upgrades to increase the Thompson\'s velocity. I have had mine upgraded with Systema metal bushings and an M120 Spring. The stock takes an 8.4v battery quite nicely, but some dremel work had to be done to the stock in order for a 9.6v to fit cleanly, which consisted of dremeling out a crossbar and filing down the sides of the stock.
Externally, cosmetic upgrades are somewhat limited. For those of you that cannot live without a Red Dot sight, you\'re out of luck with the Thompson. Even if you could find a mount for a Red Dot on a Thompson, why would you want to ruin the looks of such a beautiful AEG? The Thompson does come with a tracer adapter for the Tokyo Marui tracer unit, but I have had no need for it. For all you gangster wannabes, there are some aftermarket kits out there that would allow you to turn the Thompson into the model 1928 \"Chicago Typewriter\" version, however nobody is yet producing a drum magazine that would complete this kit. Concerning magazines, there are three versions available: 60-round standard, 190-round hicap, and 420-round hicap. The 60 and 420 round magazines look like 30 round real steel mags while the 190 round hicap looks like a 20 round mag.
Conclusion: All in all, this is by far the best and most reliable AEG I own. It has taken quite a lickin\' (being dropped and fallen on numerous times)and just keeps on tickin\'. I would recommend this AEG to anyone out there looking for a reliable and different Airsoft gun.

The only reason I didn\'t give it a 10 is because there are some extremely minor design issues that could be improved. This is a great AEG.

The hop up is a pain in the ass to get to since you have to unload the magazine in order to reach it. Other than this, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a solid and sturdy AEG out of the box.

You can adjust the hop from the shell port just above the magazine. It just takes a little getting use to. My Thompson packs a pdi 190 spring, Super torque up Hellical Gears, Metal bushing and uses a 9.6 2400 Mah sub c battery.
FPs is consistent at 425 fps. I dont know the maximum alowablle in the US but in the philippines. our limit is 480 fps.

yeah my friend has one but does anyone know hwere i can buy a replacemnt hop up at for it he cant find one and his borke when he dropped the gun after being clothslined by a barbed wire fence
