The Military Line
Knight's Armament Company (KAC) of Vero Beach, Florida is a small arms manufacturing company that has been serving the defense community for the last 20 years. KAC is the developer of the Rail Adapter System(RAS). This innovation has allowed forces to configure their M16 Rifles and M4A1 carbines to specific mission requirements. Originally developed for the M16 and M4A1, Rail KAC's Rail Adapter System along with KAC's M203 QD Mount and M4QD Suppressor are the backbone of USSOCOM's SOPMOD Kit.
The M4QD suppressor is unique to its class because of the way it quickly detaches (Hence the name M4QD) and attaches to the weapon flash hider. It is considered to be the suppressor by which all M4 silencers are to be judged.
By retrofitting the rifle with a special flash hider with a catch, the suppressor can be attached or removed by a simple lift of a lever. It takes seconds to fully equip the weapon or dismantle. This is the main reason it is part of the standard SOCOM package.
Thousands of these units have been delivered to the military for special forces use.
It is the premiere suppressor in the US arsenal.
The Sales Line
The G&P M4QD suppressor is a replica of the Knight's Armament Co. SOCOM Sound Suppressor, also known as a KAC M4QD (Quick Detach) suppressor. This suppressor is an almost 1:1 carbon copy of the real-steel KAC M4QD. It has all the correct markings and engravings, unlike many other SOCOM suppressors available.
It also attaches and detaches like the real-steel KAC M4QD - which is also unlike a lot of silencers out there. There is no fooling around with the quality of this suppressor package or the items received for the price.
The G&P M4QD is an all metal silencer. There is an outer and inner shield, and both of them are a light metal of some kind. The metal is not extremely heavy, which is perfect - because no one needs added weight to the front of their rifle.
Also included in G&P's M4QD package is a metal flash hider. It is a high quality flash hider and basically on par with all of G&P's other high quality products. The flash hider will fit basically any and all CCW threaded barrels. It includes the catch for the silencer.

Personal Experience
Although I haven\'t had a chance to skirmish with the suppressor, I will give my first impressions. I will come back and update as I have more experience.
The G&P M4QD replica of the KAC M4QD is a high quality product. You can tell the intricate attention to every minute detail that went into this unit. The only suppressor that might come close in pure craftmanship is no longer in production (the GB-TECH M4QD, but it was 2X the price).
For starters, the flash hider is extremely reinforced. I had never seen one so thick before, but it works. The only issue with the flash hider is that it screws on with no lock. I prefer to have the tiny screw that locks the threads so that the flash hider is more secure. But, that\'s a minor complaint (the package includes washers of some kind).
The suppressor isn\'t an extremely heavy unit, but you can feel that it is solid. I wouldn\'t suggest dropping the entire weight on the suppressor or running it over with a HMMWV .. but I also wouldn\'t suggest doing that to your M4 Rifle either.
If there is a weak link to the suppressor, it is the metal outer shield. It is a metal shield, but it is attached on at two points that I can see. I\'d prefer more connectivity, but in truth - the real steel M4QD is basically the same. So, I\'m just looking for something here to complain about. But, in my opinion, if any place is going to fail on the suppressor, it is the metal outer skin.
The QD function of the suppressor functions like a charm. Pull up and detach, pull up and attach. It will take longer to stow and retrieve the suppressor then to attach or detach it.
For those that worry about things - the M4QD has a throw lever that locks the suppressor in place. The replica\'s throw lever functions properly and your silencer would be hard pressed to come off.
Now the main question people have:
[q]Does it suppress sound?[/q]
Yes and no.
Yes, it removes the noise of the BB escaping your rifle and the gust of wind behind it ... but in truth:
No, not really. Sure, it dissipates that little bit of noise - but I don\'t think it is going to be enough to hide your location. The majority of the noise from your gun is from the internal gears and motor, and unless you soundproof your mech-box, then there will always be noise that the enemy can use to pinpoint your location.
But, who cares. It looks darn cool! You\'ll be the cool kid on the block for at least a weekend. Everyone will want to check it out ... it\'s a novelty item, but a darn cool one.
I\'ll post a review of how it functions in the field when I get a chance to use it more.
