Description:
|
This review is for the REAL Safariland ELCS LBV. There are knockoffs, but I cannot vouch for their durability or features.
The Military Line:
The SPEAR ELCS was designed for use by US Special Operations Forces and bares their design input. Its design is such to allow mission tailoring of not only the equipment to be carried but also on the platform on which it is to be carried. The platform components allow the system to be configured in a traditional harness system with equipment being carried on the belt, or configured in the style of a load bearing vest, or a combination of the two. The platform components feature easy adjustments at the shoulder (height), waist (girth) and the chest (girth) and are a single size system.
Each full-set should include:
* Vest Panel (Left & Right) 1 Set
* H Harness Assembly 1 Set
* Shoulder Pad Assembly 1 Set
* Belt With Buckle 1ea.
* Pouch, M-4 Ammo (3 Mag) w/Frag & Multi
* Purpose Grenade, Right . 1ea

Personal Experience:
Well, the first thing you have to know is your load-out. The ELCS gear is quite modular, with webbing throughout every inch of usable space. I found that the only extra pouch I needed was a Paraclete Modular Hydration pouch for my Camelback.
After you are set with your load-out you will find that this piece of equipment is the gift that keeps on giving.
Throughout the entire piece of equipment, you will find refinements and fixes that were direct from SF operators. Some are quite simple, such as hiding the snaps on pouches or the angled front webbing for quick access to pouches. Others are quite unique, such as a built-in/removable floatation cushions or the fur lining to your canteen pouches. While we aren\'t apt to need the \"floaties\" in the airsoft world, they do provide a nice padding for when you take a BB round to the chest.
But, how does it fair? Well, I use my gear in the heat of Texas - with the float-padding in. I have not overheated and have quite the expansive load-out. If you opt to remove the float-padding, you\'ll definitely receive a nice breeze through the best lining of the vest. It\'s nice and light and quite open.
Talking about the opening - the way the chest panels are situated, you get maximum chest surface area exposed and this helps keep you cool. It is also a bonus for when you hit the dirt and go prone. In the prone position you have nothing, and I repeat nothing, that forces you in the air of forces you to shift positions to create an exposed target. (it\'s also nice, because it keeps most of your gear out of the dirt and mud)
Talking about the dirt and the mud - cleaning is a snap. Throw it in your bathtub, rub it down a little and let it dry. Simple as 1-2-3.
When it comes to combat, nothing helps like the left and right 3-mag pouches. As all the pouches are closed through either a snap or velcro or both - you have quick and quiet access to 6 magazines. The pouch is large enough to drop the empty in and pull out the next mag. Of course, if you are prone, it is kind of a pain. So, I suggest putting a small armory on your left (if you are a righty) or right (if your a lefty) panel.
So far I\'ve tested the endurance of the ELCS system - I\'ve been entrenched in the muck and crawled on my belly through some swampy messes, I\'ve rushed through thorns and branches ... and I don\'t have a single blemish on my gear. All pockets and components are water proof (as long as you don\'t clean it improperly).
I can\'t recommend this gear highly enough. If you are a gear nut -- then this is your LBV of choice.
Quality is A , functionality is A .
Overall Rating: 9.0-10.0 (depending on how averse to price you are)
