The trash cans are like that everywhere in Japan. They have it divided into burnable, non-burnable, cans, and PET bottles (which are recycled differently from other plastics). The really confusing part is they sometimes combine the burnable and non-burnable, so I'm not quite sure what the point of ever having them separated is.
