Cassandra (Top), recently acquired Sun Project Escort System M4A1 Carbine. This replica is still undergoing some modifications, in progress now is a replacement of the stock pistol grip with a Hogue contoured ergonomic grip.

Maria (Bottom), Sun Project Escort System M4 Carbine. This replica was modified by AustinWolv with a Hogue contoured ergonomic grip, real foregrips and waffle spring.

I got the ergonomic grip all installed this evening.

I happened upon an old very small screwdriver I no longer use of the perfect diameter. Used my Dremel to remove the tip. Cut off another 1/2 inch of the shaft and tapped that into the grip to reduce the selector switch detent hole. After that I used a polishing wheel on my Dremel to shave down the selector switch side of the grip to allow smooth travel of the selector.

Wow, forgive me, what about the Hogue grip installation requires you to fabricate a metal pin like that? I thought the selector switch was fairly removed from the grip assembly - is there something special about a Sun Project gun that requires all that work?

The "stops" for the selector switch occur against a pin and spring which is opposed by the pistol grip. In the stock SP grip, the recess for the spring is only one or two millimeters deep. That recess in the Hogue grip is about half an inch deep and needs to be filled, because the SP's pin and spring aren't nearly that long.
