Ingenious how the G36 allows for replacement of the magwell. What is the actual mag release, the side tab or the tab below near the trigger guard?

The side tab, just like any normal Armalite rifle.
See that "lever" on the side? That's the mag release. The rear release lever in front of the trigger guard is not used at all.
