Yup Kestrel....its for kneeling to shoot. I've seen several DMRs do that.

It must be a "I am special thing" because it serves no extra purpose and I can guarantee you that there are times when they have to get down on both knees.

Well in response to Bstann's comment it may be an "i am special thing." Delta force operators are known to customize their uniforms by doing stuff like using only one kneepad, but its most likely just for kneeling.
