You would need to PM Advanced Battlefield for details, but I don't believe the authorities were able to push hard enough to arrest the thieves. I don't know further details or why.

In short, the right people didn't get engaged in the investigation quick enough. By the time they figured out the prime suspects, the replicas and other stolen items were long gone. This is pretty much a dead issue now.
