I have an older version of the HK416 metal body kit from hurricane. I have a king arms MRE ris kit, but I'd really like to have that m416 RIS that terminates right up close to the top rail. Is it possible to buy that separately from hurricane? I've done the basic google researching but can't seem to track down the part I need. Basically the ris and gas block to just slide over a one-piece barrel?

Anyone who's done a conversion that could give me some advice would be a big help. Thanks!

As for getting the Hurricane version of those parts, I don't think they are individually available from retailers. Try contacting kastwayairsoft.com as they can deal directly with Hurricane to see.

Another option is to look at the JG or other clone versions of the 416, as those are frequently available on airsoft classifieds sites. Also look in the 'boneyard' sections of AirsoftGI or Kapowwe for broken guns that you could pull the 416 RIS from. Note that the 416 RIS attaches differently, if made into a proper replica, than other RIS units.

FYI, the JG version of that RIS is very sharp...It seems to be CNC'd from a single piece of aluminum (that's chinese for potmetal) but the rails on mine aren't quite to spec. Some foregrips will be a tight fit.

Oh, and it's extremely heavy. But on the bright side it'll fix your problem!!

Thanks for all the responses guys,

Did that come with the fold down front sight in that picture? if not, any recommendations for that piece as well?
Thanks for the suggestion, and the warning. to be honest, I haven't found another m416 RIS so my options may be limited despite the deficiencies.

That picture is of a JG416, so it came with the gun.

You can find the 416 fold down sight on the same website: http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.php?cPath=68_70&products_id=1153

So you can pretty much knock 2 birds down with 1 stone. Although, it may be proprietary because it says: "Compatible with JG 416 1 piece barrel only".

Yeah it looks pretty cool, and fits flush with the receiver alright. It doesn't wobble at all either. I guess you could go for it, or maybe buy a JG416 as a donor gun. I like my JG416 :).

I'd check compatibility with the retailers before you make a purchase.

The HK416 RIS attaches differently than other RIS' in that you need the correct barrel nut. The bolt you see at the rear bottom of the RIS crosses through a slot in the barrel nut to lock down.

As for the front folding site, it mates with features on the HK416 gas block and then a pin that has a mating pin is pressed in to hold it in place and about which it rotates

Yeah, I figured it all fit together in a way that would cause me grief. Times like these I wish hurricane dealt directly with the consumer. Maybe I should get in touch with a retailer and see if they would order parts for me/ check compatibility of my older kit with their newer parts.

Ah, I'm totally dumb. I actually have an older HKM4D body, and the top adapter rail is lower than the final M416 (redesigned after a lawsuit, apparently) so I've been scrounging up pictures of the HKM4D prototype to see how i should I style my gun to make it look more or less authentic. Thanks for the replies again.

Do you have this receiver (http://www.lonestarairsoft.com/forums/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/3049/ppuser/335/sortby/d/sorttime/9999/way/asc), made by Guarder? If so, there's a few things you should know:

1. Getting the gearbox in and out of that receiver set is something of a nightmare. Slip the upper portion of the gearbox into the upper receiver. Then slip the lower receiver into place from front to back, at an angle, and use a rubber mallet to tap the lower receiver into place. Separating the two halves can be far more difficult and will certainly necessitate tapping the lower receiver off of the gearbox's rear with a rubber mallet.

2. I have tried three different forearms on that upper receiver:

2.a. G&P RAS II prototype (http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?itm=GP-ACC-402_cat_RIS%20and%20RAS). I don't recommend this component at all. While it looks impressive and is well made, externally, it's utter garbage inside. The two halves of the forearm will not mate up properly on your delta ring and won't hold in place against each other without heavy modification. Furthermore, the portion of the upper half which should lock in place inside the delta ring does not do so.

2.b. A G&P free floating RAS similar to this one (http://www.wgcshop.com/pcart/shopper.php?itm=GP-RAS-180_cat_Conversion%20Kit%20for%20AEGs). The fit and finish was excellent and I was happy with it on the receiver, but shortly after I installed it option 2.c., below, was released.

2.c. A Madbull Noveske 10" free float RAS, which has remained on my AEG to this day (http://www.lonestarairsoft.com/forums/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/6244). This Madbull unit does not come with any shims to strengthen the fit between the barrel nut, barrel and the Guarder HK416D Prototype receiver. Odds are you will need some shims to install over your barrel to prevent significant travel on your barrel (I noticed approximately 2mm travel in any direction). I can provide you the information you'd need to purchase such shims or sell you some of the ones I bought six months ago. Contact me if you're interested.

Hey Hammerhead,

Thanks for the info, but mine is actually a Hurricane HKM4D metal body. Right now I have King Arms (Knights Arm. replica) floating RIS MRE. I'm not sure I really like it yet. I bought it on a whim in high school and just now got around to installing it. It looks okay, but I guess I'm getting to the point where I would have liked a shorter CQB set up but I've invested in the longer one piece barrel and this RIS so Oh well. I figure at some point I'll have another M4 or something similar to put it on.

That Noveske 10" looks really awesome though on your HKM4D. Maybe when I move towards a shorter barrel length I'll take another look at that. Right now I am trying to figure out the best way to hide that wire that sticks out the back and into my crane stock. I think I'd like to try and get it to go down the tube and into the crane stock completely hidden. Anyone done this before? I'm not even sure if its possible, but I know Shakman said some had done it.
