View Full Version : Raid Mod

I tried a Raid mod on an old DCU top I had laying around. I started and finished with the actual sewing this morning. From the front you'll see a "conservatively" slanted pocket on the left (I didn't put as much slant as I could have) and on the right, straight. I opted to try the Mandarin collar. It was a little tough using material from the same collar, but I think I got it now. Note, not all BDU collars have the same amount of material. Success will be dependent on amount of collar available. I have access to all common US camos, so making a Mandarin collar will be just as easy, or even easier, from scratch.
I did not put any Velcro on the pockets or for name tapes since I don't have it in the larger widths. It's not a problem to do though.
Feedback please.

Good stuff, Tiger.

Nicely done! I'm not sure about the aesthetics of the breast pockets (only one being slanted), but if that's what works for you, then run with it. This isn't a fashion contest, after all. Is it? :D

I think you'll find that having velcro on the shoulder pockets will be a good thing especially if you plan on attending some of the larger state-wide games where your "proof of admission" is having your event patch on your uniform.

It looks nice!

Thanks for the feeback. This was a sample only. The difference in front pockets was to see which style others and I like. I don't plan on making them that way. Being an engineer, I like everything symetric:) Now that I know I can do it, I'll go for mods on some of my stuff and whatever others order.

Dump the breast pockets all together if you run a plate carrier. Move them to your calves below any knee pads for extra storage easily accessed.

I second what LaPHtA said. If they're under a plate carrier, they never get accessed. On that note, I took off the pockets on my pants for the same reason. They were in the way of my kneepads, and the extra layer of fabric made everything hotter.

Great mod! I did this myself to my Woodland BDU top and added the large velcro to it as well in preparation for OP: NS3 this year.

Good Job!
