I have been playing airsoft weekly for a little over 6 months now and think I am fit for a role as a sniper. I love to sneak around and am very good at waiting for the right shot, and most importantly I have very high respect for the minimum engagement rules.

I have been looking around and reading reveiws and such and have decided that the TM G-Spec is the sniper for me. Seems that it is a reliable and not so expensive solution to introduce myself to the sniper role.

Is the TM G-Spec a good start?

If so, what will I need to buy in order to get it into the 500~550 fps range?

Much thanks in advance!

I also love being a sniper, and I have a TM VSR-10 G-Spec, but there is one thing you really need to consider buying in addition to the upgrade parts, and that is a side arm for the close encounters where your rifle is too fast and out of the engagement rules. To obtain the 500-550 fps, you should probably purchase your gun pre-upgraded of off www.redwolfaisoft.com, or another company that does professional upgrades. Or, if you want to save yourself a fair bit of money and do it on your own, these are the parts you need to buy:
Bare minium:

But, if you want to keep your internals from being damaged, and actually be able to cock it:

Also, think about getting a tightbore inner barrel, barrel spacers, and some good hop-up bucking.

Here is a link to my review for the VSR-10 G-Spec:

And here is an excellent guide if you choose you install all the parts yourself: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/index.php?topic=2088.0

You're welcome :p

Hey, thanks a lot dude. But a few more questions:
1. What exactly does that Zero Trigger package in the link you gave me include in the package?

2. Did you upgrade yourself or did you have someone do it?
3. If you had someone do it, who?

4. (This question is for anyone) What kind of scope do you suggest?

To answer your first question, the Laylax PSS10 Zero Trigger incldues the replacement trigger with reinforced sears so that the trigger pull is effortless as in stock form as opposed to incredibly strong trigger pull, hence the name "Zero Trigger." It also includes a super light weight piston makes cocking easier and also creates more power by reducing the inertial weight during firing. And to answer your seecond and third question, I have not upgraded my gun and prefer to leave it stock, but I have done my research, and found the upgrades necessary are a rather pricey. The hop-up bucking and a tighbore are about the only things I can really think of that are cheap, but effective upgrades. Also, don't forget to invest in some good BB's i.e., Tokyo Marui .25's, or if you follow through with the upgrades, something more in the .30-.43 range would be more suitable; but keep in mind, the heavier BB's tend to be fairly pricey at about $10-$12 for about a 1,000. Check the LSA Content section for "User Reviews" and you'll find some BB reviews. And for the last question pertaining to the scope, I bought a TAsco 3x9x40 for about $38 at Walmart. However, something to consider, the scope mounts are also just as important, and the ones that I have are too high, and I can't precisely zero it, thus having to compensate whenever taking a shot. Look for lower scope mounts, for reference, the ones that I purchased are about an inch off of the scope mount on the gun so look for ones that will fit a 20mm rail (Very important, there are lots of weaver .22 and BB gun style mounts that won't fit) and make sure that from the bottom to the top of the mount you have about a half inch, depending on the diameter of your scope. And if you do follow through with purchasing the TM VSR-10 G-Spec shooting at ~500fps, plan on spending around $450-$500. Good luck!

That is what I have on my list right now. The only thing that I am questioning is if I will need a new cylinder and head. Because I have been looking around and a lot of people say that getting the cylinder head off the cylinder is nearly impossible (you have to drill out the pin connecting the 2) and that it is way easyer to just get a new cylinder. But cylinders run about $100.
Has anyone ever upgraded a TM VSR-10? How did you get the cylinder head and cylinder apart?

For the VSR-10 you have to drill out a retaining pin at the stock cylinder head before you can remove it. This is not an issue for the G-Spec.

Upgrading the VSR series is very easy and can be handled by anyone with very little know-how. The one place you have to pay attention to when upgrading is the internals of the trigger group.

Also, one thing to note, is that you will experience a greater difficulty when cycling the VSR after upgrades. The bigger spring means a much harder pull to cycle the next "round" than you have in the stock config. Practice it...often...as cycling the spring is almost as bad as an ejecting brass shell...it'll give you away to anyone paying attention.

Thanks for the info, and pointer. I think I am set now.

Are you sure the cylinder head pin is not an issue with the G-Spec? When did you buy your G-Spec?

Last question (hopefully):
Just to clarify, you dont need re-enforced sears if you get the zero trigger right?

It's not an issue if you go slow with a drill, and make sure that you're drilling only pin, and not too deep into the cylinder head. A drill press makes this much easier, however it can be done with a hand drill. I did mine that way.

As for the Zero trigger, you are correct.

Alright, my dad is pretty handy with tools, I think we will manage.
