I'm fairly new to the sport, a couple of months of unorganized play with friends, and we are looking into radios to purchase/headsets/mikes and have found a rather confusing amount of info online. Any vets out there have a fav. or a good radio set up to suggest?? Thanks, newby

Motorola radios are going to be the cheapest solution for communication. Motorola makes cheap headsets designed for their radios as well. Just do a search for "motorola" and you will find plenty of information.
Good luck

Good info in the link above...
But I gotta say, again, what are your criteria? Are you broke? Are you rich? Do you want what everyone else has or do you want to be different? Do you want reliable or crap? Do you want GREAT range, good range or what?
Your going to get a LOT of opinions with this type of question.
Lots of WC uses Motorola Sabers, there are a few people in WC that use Yeasu and Icom too.
Just about everyone, manu wise, has a good selection. Range varies on WATTAGE output. ALL ranges are LOS. (Line of Sight.)
Lots of newbs use the Motorola TalkAbouts. Those are fairly cheap and work fine on most of the fields we use but definitely have a range problem. (.5 watts)
FRS doesn't require a license. (FRS is ususally .5 watts.) GMRS does require a license from the FCC.
Lots of the San Antonio teams are going Icom.
Searching this site will give you more details to decide on also.
