Yeah, I'm going... For those that will be there make sure to check out the "Austin Modders" booth on Saturday. The previous event was alright, but I expect this one to be a good deal better.
Happy gaming for those that go....

Aww damn't, wish I had heard about this earlier. Is it possible to just walk in and play in a tournament? Specifically the CS 1.6 tournament? O well, good luck guys, and kick some ass while your at it!

No, it was a BYOC (bring your own computer). I'll get some pics of the event. My favorite part was the X700pro that I won. :)

SWEEEET! I like the last picture the best, that wouldn't happen to be one yours? Congratulations on the video card, did you win it in the comp mod contest?

Surprisingly out of all the fps games I have played, I have yet to play Quake. :(

You can't go wrong with MS DOS.

???
Wow, it's like a whole nother language. I heard that your computer was buit from scratch from my little brother Andrew- does this mean you picked the drives, memory, audio, video, etc.? Was it cheap? My bro and I share our windows 98 (actually he generally uses my moms continually updated xp), so it would be nice if I could have one that's affordable.
Oh yah, so the x700 is a video card. Congrats.

CenterMass,
Yes The Austin modders are going to Quakecon... Were going to have our own booth (most likely so you'll be able to find us fairly easily)

Icedog213,
Yes, I won it with my casemod. The last pic is of one of my associates computers... More of his work can be found at www.zapwizard.com
1st place got an FX-55 and a Watercooler
2nd got an X700
and 3rd also got an X700... I won 2nd (main reason being that not all pictured cases entered.)

Peyton,
Its only as cheap as the part you buy... But it will be cheaper than the ripoff OEM (Dell, Compaq etc..) machines

Smog,
You can go wrong with any MS product :D

How much would I save for a decent computer? I'm willing to learn any of the stuff to get a good computer. Any site that has stuff for those who know nothing about the internals of computers? I checked out the site that you gave, but that is kind of advanced for me.
Thanks

Is your computer box acrylic with aluminum/steel framing, or metal with windows? And also, that is a cold cathode illumating the half life 2 symbol, right?
Finally- the ammo box looking thing with the wavy LED(I think) light. Is that stationary or moving?
Thanks,
Just trying to get ideas.

Not sure what your trying to ask here, but its aluminum that was texturized with a wire brush. The window is tinted acrylic (its black when the lights aren't on and see-through when their on like in the picture). The other stuff is Just black acrylic.
There are 4 cold cathodes illuminating the HL2 logo, they are behind translucent red acrylic.

Finally- the ammo box looking thing with the wavy LED(I think) light. Is that stationary or moving?
Yeah, it moves. The unit is called a "VFD" Vacuum Florescent display. I belive that unit cost about $150 or so, maybe more.

Having the right tools also helps. That HL2 case was done with a Dremel and a Jigsaw. However for current project the tools will include a laser cutter and engraver, CNC, plastic bender and all the usual tools (Dremel, jigsaw etc.)
I would say that if you really plan on looking into doing this the Dremel is the first and best tool you can purchase. It can do the job of just about any tool and its small. Furthermore Dremel tools are great to have around the house anyway.
