I'm not new to airsoft, actually. I've been actively playing for about 2 and a half years in fields around the Dallas area. I've probably seen more than a few members of these forums at the Maypearl field, and I do know my way around this airsoft thing pretty well. I own several fairly nice guns and so none of my questions will really be technical.

In a little less than a month, I'll start classes at UT Austin. I've only been down to Austin three times in my life, and I've never paid attention to the airsoft scene there.

Essentially, my main question is this: what's the deal with airsoft here? Any details on fields, shops, groups of players will be fine. I don't really know much.

Secondly, is there any acknowledgement of airsoft by UT Austin? I mean, it does seem to be a very bad idea to keep my guns on campus, unless I'm missing something. Any student groups for airsoft?

I guess that's about it... it's just kind of wierd moving off to a new city and all.

Thanks!

Glad to hear we'll be getting a new player. I think you'll find the answers to most of your "What's the deal here?" questions by looking around the site; it's called Austin Airsoft for a reason. However, I shall provide a brief overview:

4 Teams: FOG, Whiskey Company, Apocalypse Chapter, The Chosen.
Skirmishes take place pretty much every Sunday at 1:00 PM. The location alternates weekly between TX Paintball and Hunters Airsoft. Information on these facilities can be found at http://www.txpb.com and http://www.huntersairsoft.com.
Obsidian and Agrovale are generally happy to provide BBs, gas, etc. They also run the group order program.

UT, as I understand it, has policies which would make the creation of an official airsoft-related organization on campus troublesome. It is my personal belief that this is for the best, for reasons I won't delve into right now. Airsoft replicas are not permitted in dormitories.

In any case, welcome to Austin airsoft community. Hope to see you out on the field soon.

Supergeek = Shayne, no? (With the exception of potentially spelling your name wrong.....)

FOG and Whiskey Co. are the two most active teams in the area. Both are fairly well organized, but do not take Airsoft too incredibly seriously to drive away the need to just have fun. Most all of those two teams consist of members ranging from their early 20's to almost 40.
Apoc Chapter consists of younger players, most being in their late teens, and their attendance varies, but they are all very respected, mature players. I honestly cannot recall the membership of The Chosen, other than them being rather young and not often represented at the local skirmishes.

The first three teams mentioned have all attended ops at Maypearl, as well as regular Maypearl skirmishes in the past, if I'm not mistaken, with Whiskey Co. having made the trip much more often in the past.

mcoupe has the inside track on UT Austin policies and is likely your best source for information in that regard. If I may so suggest, you may want to consult him on the safest way to store your weapons, even if that means off-campus.

See you soon.

I looked around and found this: http://www.utexas.edu/depts/dos/sjs/. The passage to note is:
Notwithstanding any action taken by civil authorities or agencies charged with the enforcement of criminal laws on account of the violation, the dean may initiate disciplinary proceedings under subchapter 11-300 against a student who ... possesses, uses, or displays firearms, facsimile firearms, ammunition, explosives, or other weapons on property owned or controlled by the University, without written permission from the dean.Clearly, off-campus storage with a friend of your replicas is the way to go.

This is ironic. I move to Dallas to attend UTD in about two weeks. If it isn't too much trouble, PM me with some information about the airsoft scene there. I guess we are switching places, huh?

Welcome. Don't know if you remember but I bought an EOTech from you a while back and met you at Inclement Weather. If you ask around you should be able to find someone local that would be willing to store your gear for you.

Dark, visit www.airsoftretreat.com and look for the TASO section in the forums. Events and information is posted there: http://www.airsoftretreat.com/forums/default.asp?CAT_ID=8

Most of the Dallas area Airsofters frequent that site BTW.
