View Full Version : moscarts?

The recent posting in the news section about a replica of the WW2 German "Kamp Pistol" has got me to wondering about airsoft grenade launchers. I realise that I'm a fairly casual player (my odd work schedule prevents me from playing more than about once a month) but I have never seen anyone use a moscart at a skirmish. Hell, I have never even seen one fired.

Why is this? What is it that limits their tactical utility? What uses might one have beyond the obvious "cool factor"?

Why is this? Best use would be for close-range clearing, of which we do very little to none. The closest I came to doing so outdoors was firing into bushes where opfor was, mainly to scare them more. Firing full-auto into said bush is just as effective and quicker. They basically act like shotgun more than an indirect-fire grenade. I also used them to rain BBs on someone from above, but they didn't even seem to notice.

What is it that limits their tactical utility? That they don't act like a grenade. They are basically a gas-powered shotgun. I can't take a M203 launcher and send it 100 yards down the field on a dug-in enemy. Range is VERY limited, unless you happen to have an inner barrel set, which makes it actually possible to use in a skirmish. With green gas in a 24rd MM grenade, shooting through a MM inner barrel set in my previously-owned SP M203 launcher, I could get a consistent spread with range out to 20-25 yards with enough velocity to still make someone pay attention. Absolute range was further.

What uses might one have beyond the obvious "cool factor"? Mentioned above. Room/hallway clearing. Merely to spook others. Close-range things where a single-shot spread would be advantageous. They are cool to fire, but that is about it.

Thanks, Wolv.

I pretty much guessed it was lack of range. I suppose as a single shot back-up weapon the "Kamp Pistol" might not be too bad. It's probably as close as you can come to a "whippit" shotgun (meaning a shotgun sawn off so severely that it resembles a pistol) and would be quite intimidating.

I can only imagine what it would be like to take a 100+ shot Moscart at about 10 feet, though...

Obsidian can help you out with that. :D For me, the added weight isn't worth the benefit. Which is pretty much all psychological. People crap their pants when they are fired on with one of those. Very distinct and different noise than any other airsoft weapon.
