I was wondering if anybody knows whether a place like Hobbytown would have a large-female-to-mini-male wire connector in their store.

No, pretty sure they do not.

The mini connectors used on many airsoft AEG's and battery packs are exceedingly rare in area hobby stores. All the ones I've picked up have been from over-seas suppliers. Generally, local players messing with their connections a lot trend toward switching them out with widely available alternatives of equal or smaller profile. Deans connectors are a popular and oft-used type.

I've seen more Dodos than I have seen mini Tamiya connectors at the LHS. Like Katana said you may need to go overseas to get one. Or try contacting onlbatterypacks.com they should have some.
