I am looking for a charger that can charge up to 9.6 Nicad/nimh batteries with a built in discharger and is able to hook to my car for power. Any ideas? I have looked around but cant find a lot with built in discharger and all the other features. I would like to spend under $70 and the cheaper the better.

Hitec CG-340...............charges up to 16 cells NiMH or NiCad and uses DC. $34.99.

The only caveat is it doesn't discharge. But $5 will buy you enough brake light bulbs to make several dischargers.

icydk.............you only discharge Nicad, not NiMH.

Hitec CG-340...............charges up to 12 cells NiMH or NiCad and uses DC. $34.99.

I just noticed that it says it charges not only 12 cell but "4-16 cell NiCd or NiMh 50-3000 mAh battery Packs" on their webpage.

I stand corrected, 16 cells. I knew it was quite a few cells but not 16. Thats a lot.

I have one of those chargers and its been running strong now for 3 years.

Does any one have any suggestions for battery chargers they have had good luck, or a long history with? I used to race R/C cars and used a Duratrax Intellicharger Mini with great success. I understand how important it is to take good care of your battery packs. I am still unsure if using this same charger will work correctly for a 8.4v Mini-type battery. (My prior experience was exclusively with 3000mah NiMh.) All of my research so far points me to the TLP line of chargers, but I have also come to believe that the TLP line of chargers and the Duratrax chargers are in fact made by the same manufacture. Your suggestions are welcome as I am new to this hobby.

If you want a charger/discharger that will charge anything look at the Great Planes Triton. It is a touch over $100 - but it can run off of your car battery, then charge it up later :) It charges NiCd, NiMh, LiPo, and Lead Acid batteries.

Thank you for your recommendation. This may be somewhat expensive as it requires an outboard power supply for at-home charging. Do you think the Duratrax chargers are safe to use?

Do you think the Duratrax chargers are safe to use? Absolutely. I used a Duratrax Intellipeak digital charger prior to picking up the Triton, and it is a nice charger.

Thank you, AustinWolv. After some research and your recommendation. I have purchased a Triton and 12v power supply.

I got a duratrax intellipeak deluxe off of ebay for 40 bucks. Works great and has some nice features like auto cycle and can charge from my cars battery. Thanks for the recommendations guys.
